Microsoft has become the latest technology company to join the Qualcomm-backed alliance of technology companies, AllSeen Alliance. The alliance, with roughly 50 members including Panasonic and Sharp, seeks to standardize communication protocols between household devices, such as light bulbs, thermostats, security systems, cell phones, etc.

Qualcomm – San Diego:  Cellphone chip maker Qualcomm recently acquired patents once owned by Smartphone maker Palm Inc. from Hewlett-Packard.  Qualcomm indicated that the purchase covers 1,400 U.S. patents and about 1,000 foreign patents for the company’s mobile computing technology.

Qualcomm Inc. – Is the largest seller of semiconductors for mobile phones.  The company has decided to proceed into the tablet market.  It will begin to sell upgraded versions of its “Snapdragon” processor line and anticipates that the new chips will appear in 200 phones and tablets, according to Raj Talluri, Sr. VP.
